Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms simulated in BioDynaMo

Image
The first agent based model known to accurately capture the physical phenomena of biofilms growing under constant fluid flow, with experimental validation, is a BioDynaMo based model of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa biofilms. From DOI: 10.1038/s41522-026-01052-1 As of 2019, biofilms (microbial communities that secrete an adhesive extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), allowing cells to attach to surfaces and resist harsh conditions) have been reported to have a global economic significance of almost $4trillion.
